Milano puts forward a bid to host the world coffee congress at Expo 2015

The city of Milan’s bid to host the international coffee conference in 2015 during the Universal Exposition was announced by the director of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), Robério Oliveira Silva, during the presentation in Rome of  the “Coffee Cluster”, i.e. one of the thematic pavilions at Expo Milano 2015.

“We welcomed the letter sent by the Italian Prime Minister with enormous pleasure and will carefully evaluate Milan’s candidacy as a site for the international coffee convention in 2015” commented Oliveira Silva.

In fact, one of the nine themed pavilions at Expo 2015 will be dedicated to coffee and, as announced by the sole Commissioner for the Universal Exposition Giuseppe Sala, “will serve as a source of pure entertainment and education for visitors”. Management of the cultural content of the Coffee Cluster has been awarded to illycaffè, the Italian company headquartered in Trieste and a leader in the high-quality coffee segment.

Furthermore, to mark the 50th anniversary of the International Coffee Organization, on 9 September, the world tour organized by illycaffè to celebrate and promote the well-known black beverage kicked off in Belo Horizonte (Brazil).

The stopover tour will involve nine cities (in 2014, it will travel to New York in February, Seoul in April, Shanghai in June, Bogotà in September and Dubai in October/November; in 2015 it will travel to London in February, to Berlin in March and to Paris in April), three continents, spread out over a period of 20 months until reaching the inaugural date of Expo Milano 2015 which will be the highlight of the tour.
