Although it is true that the objective of the registration of 140 foreign participating countries was reached with ease,  Italy is now under the world spotlight with a certain amount of scepticism prevailing in regards to completion of major strategic works  in time for the inauguration of Expo 2015. However, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Lupi has now banished all doubt: “We have unblocked more than six hundred million euros – part of which was recovered from works that never took off in the South as well as from projects like the Terzo Valico and the Turin-Lyon line – thus allowing us to save the Teem Bypasses, the Rho-Monza highway, the work needing to be done at Malpensa and on line 4 of the Milan metro with the mini-stretch of Linate and the Cascina Merlata car park».

However, to ensure that Expo 2015 really acts as a driver for the entire country, it will not be enough to make sure that everything is ready and operative on the big day: “We have to use the months that are left – continued Lupi – to promote Sistema Italia non-stop.  Expo will definitely guarantee significant benefits in the short-term thanks, for example, to jobs created by building sites and pavilions; however, in order to guarantee a return in the medium, long-term, it is necessary, in the meantime, to promote all of our excellence: this is the most important job currently facing us.”
