This important award was given to the Veneto region by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) during the recent convention held in Portugal. The prize was awarded to the Veneto region by the Golf Travel Writers Association (IGTWA), incorporating 160 of the world’s leading golf travel journalists in 33 countries, which named the North Eastern Italian region as “an undiscovered gem” of international golfing.
Awarding of the prize is based on several criteria including, for example, the fact that the destination is still not widely known, that it has the requisites that make it an “interesting” Golf destination not only in terms of its golf courses but also in view of the other attractions that it has to offer. Criteria evaluated included quality of golf courses, accessibility of the region, quality of hospitality, staff courteousy, value for money, speed of the game at golf clubs and climate of the geographic area.
This remarkable result was achieved by the Veneto region thanks to a project boasting a unitary offer, developed and coordinated by the Consorzio di Promozione Turistica Marca Treviso, culminating in an integrated promotional initiative entitled “The Veneto Fine Wine & Cuisine Golf Tour” implemented through a road show staged at several of Europe’s most famous golf courses to present the offer of 45 Greens, including twenty boasting international status, located in the seven provinces of Veneto.
In fact, thanks to investments and the work conducted over the past few years, the Veneto region has four, 27 hole golf courses, five, 18 hole golf courses, nine, 9 hole golf courses and seventeen driving ranges – a golf heritage “governed” by the Veneto Committee of the Italian Golf Federation, which holds all the necessary international standards.
