The Qatari emir Al Thani of the Qatar Holding Group is planning on investing one billion euros in Sardinia’s Emerald Coast. This is the data that emerged following a meeting held last week in Doha between Sardinia’s Regional President Ugo Cappellacci, the Mayor of Arzachena Alberto Ragnedda, the Mayor of Olbia Gianni Giovannelli and Sheik Al Thani.
The investment plan envisages the re-modernization of existing structures including Hotel Cervo, Cala di Volpe, Romazzino and the Pitrizza already owned by Qatar Holding and managed by the Starwood Hotels & Resorts group, as well as the construction of four new hotels of which two are scheduled to be built in the Olbia area.
Furthermore the development of aquatic parks and nature trails in the vicinity of several of the coast’s most beautiful beaches are also a part of the investment plant together with the construction of a go kart track. Other interventions on infrastructure are also being planned including, for example, the extension of the runway of Olbia’s airport together with the strengthening of air links, with flights between Sardinia and the Emirates.
The aim of the project is to deseasonalize tourism (so that it is not only concentrated in summer months) and the creation of a tourism model whose key priority is respect for the environment, the landscape and the identity of the island.
