To mark the inauguration of its  third satellite -a new area boasting an overall surface area of 35,000 sq.m. (more than the entire hub of Linate)  of which 3,000 are dedicated to VIP lounges - on 13 January the hub will host Malpensa Party Day.

The new area, which involved an investment of  EUR 300 million (the largest since 1998), will increase Terminal 1’s passenger capacity in a bid to host as many as 30 million passengers a year. Giuseppe Bonomi, President of SEA (the company that manages Milan’s airports), explained that, thanks to the addition of the new satellite area, Malpensa will serve as a gateway to Expo 2015. In fact, the only other similar structure of its kind is located at New York’s JFK Kennedy airport.

Thanks to the new satellite, in addition to 41 mobile  walkways, Malpensa airport will be able to simultaneously host two A380 airbuses, embarking passengers through three modern, height adjustable walkways, capable of serving two different floors of the structure. Almost all extra-Schengen flights will pass through this area while satellite B will be used to operate both Schengen and extra-Schengen flights. Satellite A, on the contrary, will continue to be used for Schengen flights.
