Genoa: launch of the project to link the airport to railway networks with a cable

Connecting Genoa’s Cristoforo Colombo Airport to the main european rail hubs, to make the area of Liguria more accessible to incoming travelers and to enlarge the user basin of the hub. This is the objective of the project entitled  GATE - Genoa Airport: a train to Europe, promoted by the Regione Liguria, the City of Genoa, a Cornigliano-based company and the Airport of Genoa.

The initiative envisages the creation of an aerial cable car link between the Genoese airport and its railway network, which will afford travellers easier, more rapid accessibility.

The design project, 50% co-financed by the European Union (576,000 euros out of the 1.152,000), will be ready by the end of 2015 and falls within a larger scheme of investments that include the development of a series of roadworks (extension of Cornigliano’s sea route) railworks (construction of a rail hub and the Terzo Valico) and airport works (enlargement of the airport and creation of a future airport logistics system).
