Hotels: according to hotel.info, in 2012 room rates in Italy dropped by 5.3%

An increase in the cost of living and a reduction of hotel room prices in Italy in 2012: these are the results of a survey conducted by hotel.info, the online booking service offering access to more than 210,000 hotels throughout the world.

Based on the preliminary findings reported by Istituto nazionale di statistica (ISTAT) for 2012, compared to the previous year, consumer prices in Italy increased by +3 %, while overnight stays at hotels dropped, in some cases, surpassing the -5% mark.

Italy shows a counter trend compared to other European countries including France and Germany where the increase in hotel room rates accounted for about 2%, against the Italian average which showed a 1.26% decrease.

More specifically, two star hotels registered a 5.33% decrease in room rates at an average cost of 70.92 euros per night; the prices of three star hotels remain stable (-0,44%) at an average rate of  82.69 euros; the drop in the room rates of four star hotels proved to be  -1.44% at average room rates of 102.55 euros per night. Conversely, room rates at five star hotels registered a – 4.23% decrease with average total savings for customers of around 1.38%.
