Business travel: stable perfomance for CWT in 2012. The company revealed significant growth in several areas including the Meeting&Events sector

Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), the multinational specialized in managing business travel and meetings and events has released the results of its activities and overall performance in 2012 which are reasonably steady compared to the previous year.

Overall sales volume accounted for USD $27.7 billion against the USD $28.0 billion in 2011 (-1,1%) and the number of transactions managed by CWT was registered at $ USD 61.7 million against the USD $  61. 9 million in 2011 (-0,2%). Furthermore, CWT also registered new business sales of USD $ 1.7 billion.

Growth took place, above all, in Latin America, where transactions increased by 21% year over year, also thanks to the additional business deriving from the acquisition of several companies (Net Tours and Centenial Group in 2011) and excellent performance in Chile and in Mexico. Transactions in North America increased by  2.3%, mirroring a more favourable economic environment.

Conversely, transactions in Asia Pacific showed a decrease of  2. 4% , despite the excellent results obtained in China and Japan, and also dropped by 4.4% in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), given the negative economic situation in this region in 2012.

"We are very pleased with our performance over the last year. As a global company with local operations all over the world, our diverse client portfolio has provided stability despite a fluctuating economic climate”, commented Douglas Anderson, President and Chief Executive officer of CWT.

In particular, CWT registered outstanding performance in several business areas such as, for example, that of Meetings & Events, growing by 10% globally with 35,000 meetings and events organized throughout the world and one million delegates. This increase is indicative of the fact that companies are keeping a close eye on cost control and the strategic management of events targeted at driving results and savings.

The Energy Services sector, dedicated to facilitating travel for companies operating in oil and gas services, maritime and drilling exploration and alternative energy sources, also grew by +22%  and managed more than 2. 3 million transactions for customers.  In fact, CWT Solutions Group, the company’s consulting arm, grew by  + 17%.

In 2013, CWT will continue to invest in innovative solutions to help companies drive value in managed travel and identify new opportunities for savings.

"2013 will be another exciting year for CWT. In order to always deliver “the perfect trip” to our clients and their travellers, we are investing further in our mobile services and in other innovative tools that will drive value in managed travel”, said Anderson.
