Free Internet access at hotels of the InterContinental Hotels Group for customers registered in the loyalty programme

From July 2013 the  InterContinental Hotels Group will offer unlimited, free Internet access to members registered with their loyalty programme. Initially, the initiative will be open to Elite members and subsequently extended, in 2014, to all others.

The decision is based on the results of a  research commissioned by the hotel group which reveals how free Internet access in hotels is a priority for all travellers.

In particular, based on the results of the survey, it emerged that 43% of respondents said that they would not stay in a hotel at which they had to pay for Internet access: 23% declared that free Internet access in their rooms and throughout the hotel is the number one priority for business travel (against 7% who give preference to room service): British (18%) and American (18%) travellers maintain that paying for use of the Internet is the second most disturbing factor after noisy guests (respectively 22% and 24%); finally, 14% of women prefer having free Internet access when staying at a hotel, rather than a hairdryer in their rooms (2%).

From July, Intercontinental will rename its Priority Club Reward programme to IHG Rewards Club and will introduce a series of new benefits for those registered. In addition to free Internet access, the new programme envisages the option of becoming Elite members more quickly when staying at three or more hotels of the IHG group; reward nights to become Elite members and extra nights to maintain Platinum Elite status in membership for the following year.
