From 8 to 11 June 2014, more than 1,200 publishers of newspapers and editors from all over the world will meet in Turin for the World Newspaper Congress / World Editors Forum.

This marks another success for Turin which won the bid for the 2014 edition of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (Wan-Ifra) event, the worldwide association of editors, beating cities such as Amsterdam e Oslo.

Turin’s candidacy, presented last April in Paris at the Association’s board meeting, was supported by a video message from the mayor Piero Fassino and actively sustained by Turismo Torino, which has been promoting the city as a congress and events site since 2000. The result was achieved thanks to teamwork on the part of the Provincia di Torino, Regione Piemonte , Fiat, La Stampa, Gruppo L'Espresso, RCS, Università di Torino, European Training Foundation and the Istituto Universitario di Studi Europei.

“After winning the bid for the World Congress of Chambers of Commerce in 2015 and the Congress of the Architetti del Paesaggio in 2016, the city has won another international event of significant importance. This serves as confirmation of just how well-viewed Turin is as an attractive, welcoming destination for national and international congress initiatives, offering suitable facilities, hospitality and organization for a vast number of operators and visitors, with ensuing positive results for tourist influx,” commented Fassino, the mayor of Turin.

The congress will not only include two simultaneous events, the 66th World Congress of Newspapers and the 20th International Editors Forum but also a rich social programme for delegates involving meet and greets and visits of the region, organized with the contribution of Turismo Torino which will offer benefits to all participants.

Based on estimates by the city of Gothenbur which hosted the congress in 2008, the overall economic impact is estimated at around 2 million euro.
