Hotel rates in Italy reduced even further with savings of up to 9% compared to 2012

According to the data of the hotel rates barometer of hotel.info, the online booking service offering access to more than 250,000 hotels throughout the world, in the first three months of 2013, hotel rates in Italy dropped by about 9% compared to the previous year.  

Milan, for example, despite being the Italian city with the highest overnight room rates, boasting an average of 102.54 euros per night, showed a percentage drop of 8.95%. In Rome, tourists have seen an 8% savings, with an average room rate of 85.21 euros, in spite of the election of a new pope and important events including the marathon.

Rates in other cities have also shown a decrease. Turin (- 9.04%, for an average of  82.22 euros), Genoa (- 2.24%, for an average of  94.71 euros) and Bari (- 1.68%, for an average of  84.74 euros).

Conversely, Naples, has seen an upswing in regard to the negative trend of the past months, showing a 5.26% increase in overnight room rates at an average of 70.70 euros per night. Prices in Bologna and Florence are also beginning to show an increase, the former (+ 2.77%, for an average of 94.35 euros) and the latter (+ 0,21%, for an average of 87.44 euros).
