A free app to discover Venice directly from your smartphone will be available in June

The new free app for smartphones and tablets that will enable users to discover the artistic treasures and itineraries of the Lagoon will be launched on 1 June during the opening of the 55th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennial (scheduled to run from 1 June to 24 November 2013).

The application, available for iOS and Android systems, was created by Vaporetto dell’Arte, the cruise line that operates on the Grand Canal to offer visitors and tourists a real tour of the city that will enable them to sightsee either on foot or by boat, using the georeferencing for points of interest.

In addition to more than one hundred facilities including museums, churches and other places of artistic and cultural interest, the app will also provide listings of works of art and artists as well as a wide array of itineraries.

Vaporetto dell’Arte offers a 7 day service from 10am to 7pm with departures from the main landing stage every 30 minutes. It has 80 seats, each equipped with its own monitor and audio commentary in 6 languages (Italian, English, French, German, Russian and Spanish). Its hop on/hop off system enables tourists to disembark at will, while the ticket is valid, in order to visit museums, monuments, theatres and exhibitions. By adding the new free app tourists will now also be able to find their way around simply by consulting their mobile devices.
