CWT launches the Travel Stress Index to reduce business traveller stress and increase corporate productivity

Helping companies improve traveller wellbeing while simultaneously increasing corporate productivity by as much as 32%: this is the objective of the CWT Travel Stress Index (TSI), the new tool developed by Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), a global leader specialized in managing business travel and meetings and events, which measures the financial impact of lost productivity incurred through trip-related stress.

Based on a study of the main stress triggers for business travellers, CWT has established that policies centered on travellers and the impact of stress related to business trips, improve traveller wellbeing and help companies increase productivity.

"We have discovered that we can help our clients control and impact, on average, 32% of this portion of lost time and productivity. By identifying which stress factors cause the most distress for a particular segment of travellers, we can recommend specific solutions to enhance the travel experience and improve productivity. It could be advising on connectivity solutions for each stage of a trip or recommending a specific carrier based on on-time or lost-luggage performances,” commented Vincent Lebunetel, head of CWT Solutions Group for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Thanks to TSI, CWT Solutions Group, the global consulting arm of CWT, can now evaluate stress levels related to corporate travel, benchmark it against industry norms and help clients tackle the hidden costs of business travel and improve duty of care responsibilities.

The Travel Stress Index was created thanks to the use of the Big Data technique and is based on the enormous amount of data originating from nine different sources, including 15 million air transactions, the results of CWT surveys on causes of stress, demographic information about travellers, employee compensation benchmark data worldwide, statistics regarding flight delays and lost luggage and information about geopolitical risks. For each trip, the stress perceived was analysed by dividing it into 22 activities (from booking to transportation from place of departure to that of arrival, hotel stays and expense reports) and identifying in each one of them those devoid of stress and those considered stressful and unproductive.
