Genoa: corporate and international events on the increase

The Convention Bureau Genova recently presented the data obtained from a survey conducted on the Genoa-based meeting industry for 2012 and the first four months of 2013. The study was sponsored by  Federcongressi&eventi; the data collected by the Convention Bureau of Genoa and the Portofino Coast, were processed by Confindustria’s Genoa-based Study Centre, in collaboration with the association’s Tourism Section.

In the period examined, Genoa hosted 993 events for a total of 79,846 participants. During the first four months of this year, the number of events dropped by 3.2% and the number of delegates by 8.3% compared to the previous year.

Basically speaking during the first four months of 2013, the number of delegates attending corporate, medical-scientific or bank and insurance-related events increased while those pertaining to cultural and associative events decreased.

Conversely, compared to 2012, events of a domestic and local nature decreased while international ones increased.

The fact that most of the above are small, occasional events, is in line with the data for 2012: 70% of these events are attended by from 10 to 50 participants and more than 60% are held on a one-off basis.

Furthermore, they are mainly events lasting for only one day (80%), event though three-day events have increased, passing from 2.2% to 5.6% of the total.
