Italy, the preferred destination of the emerging markets

Less Italian guests, more foreign clients in Italy's hotels: this is a summary of data regarding the hotel attendance registers during the last end of the year festivities by Italian Hotel Industry Union (AICA -Associazione Italiana Confindustria Alberghi). The average data indicates a substantial restraint of average prices applied which, with -0,17%, remain within the values of 2012. The Occupancy Rate (TOC - Tasso di occupazione) registered a slight increase thanks to the foreign component with a +1,23% when compared to the same rate the year before. 

 

On average the luxury segment shows a slight increase of average price levels, which maintained stable profits despite of the reduction in the rate of occupancy. 

Oppositely, four star hotels - confirmed to be the preferred segment by foreign tourists such as Russians, Chinese and Germans - have opted for a restraint in their rates and have been rewarded with an increasing occupancy growth of 3% compared to the same period in 2012. 

 

Precisely this attention to emerging markets is instigating new tourist flows from abroad. Such a case is Brescia, where the initiative of organizing a programme of events dedicated to the Chinese New Year, has led to over a thousand Asian citizens to visit the Italian Lioness, which has thus obtained a clear increase of attendance over the festive season . www.alberghiconfindustria.it
