Italy mon amour, especially with Expo 2015 in sight. The international hotel chain Barcelò has acquired the management of a four-star hotel by Boscolo group, in Milan, in the Certosa area, close to Fiera di Rho-Pero. The hotel is specialised in business clientele. The hotel, renamed Barcelò Milan, has 280 rooms with free wi-fi, a modern convention centre with 7 halls with a capacity to host 380 people and a Spa of 600 msq.

This will not be the only such operation the Group intends to carry out. As reported by Il Sole 24 Ore, this hotellier colossus will open two resorts in Italy, one in Sicily and one in Sardinia, in view of 2015. “However, we hope to make other acquisitions to be present in the main cities, as well as in some of the top vacation localities”, said Carlo De Romedis, Italian General Manager of the chain which boasts 150 hotels in 17 Countries.

Owned by a Family from Palma de Maiorca present in the hotel business for three generations, “Barcelò believes firmly in the potential of the Italian market – adds De Romedis – in spite of some actual difficulties”. Milan is considered as one of the most interesting markets, especially thanks to the Expo 2015. Meanwhile, the Corriere della Sera points out that the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Boscolo Hotels, Luciano Fausti, has presented a debt restructuring plan to banks. This would be the second attempt to restore Boscolo Group, after that of 2010. Currently, the group is  indebted for over 400 million Euros against about 250 million Euros of revenue.
