Italy has another Unesco site, the fiftieth. It has been in fact made official at Doha that the landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato have been inserted among the cultural World Heritage of Humanity sites. The candidature of the Vineyard Landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato is a project launched in 2003, from the proposal put forward by the Canelli territory that wanted to give value the underground WIne Catherdrals and on its way it gathered the co-operation of the Langhe-Roero territories, extending to Monferrato.

Together the selected areas represent the exceptional quality of the vineyard landscape of Piedmont and its deep and alive wine culture. This precious wine territory extends on over 10,780 hectars, with 6 main components. The Heritage of Humanity sites are: The Langa of Barolo, The Hills of Barbaresco, The Castle of Grinzane Cavour, Canelli and Asti Spumante, Nizza Monferrato and Barbera, the Monferrato of Infernot.

"We have worked together in unison for long and intensely - on our visions and projects in common - so as to reach our objective, which today our three territorial Agencies can only share with the same amount of satisfactory sentiment and joy for this nomination. It is not a finishing line, but a departure. With the same methodology of group work we have used till now, we will from here depart, with operative projects and just as shared, so as to make sure that the territoriality of Unesco Heritage Territories becomes a concrete element of interception of new markets and touristic incomings and, taking advantage of tany useful opportunity in this sense, first among all Expo 2015. However, before all this, we want to transmit with all our pride and love for our territories (where the work of man and the great culture of working the land and conserving the landscape have created excellency), a vision and a proposal for the ever more sustainable fruition in line with the tendencies of the new tourist generations. A territory is not to be consumed but to be lived: by being in contact with its people, breathing its landscape, enjoying its flavours, breathing its history. We are ready" according to Luigi Barbero, President of the Alba Bra Langhe Roero Tourism Authority, Maria Teresa Armosino, President of ATL of Asti and Sergio Guglielmero, President of the Tourist Agency of Alessandria.
