Italy, hotel rates: some rise, some drop

Hotel rates in Italy rise by 2% according to Hotel Price Index of Hotels.comthe leading online hotel bookings website. In 2014, travellers who have stayed in Italian hotels - both for leisure as well as for business - have in fact spent an average of 125 Euros per room per night, even though there are some considerable differences among the cities taken into consideration by the analysis. 

In the classification of the most expensive cities in terms of hotel stays, there are three cities from Campania region: in Capri, after an increase of 6%, hotel prices have reached an average of 218 Euros in 2014, making the maritime cities one of the most exclusive destinations of the world. Stabel in second place is Positano, where a room costs on average 217 Euros per night, whereas in third place is Ravello which, notwithstanding a decrease of 2%, it maintained an average price of 201 Euros per room per night. In fourth and fifth place of the list are Bellagio (193 Euros on average per night) and Taormina (187 Euros).

However, there are more conveniente cities: the "champions" in this sense are Pompei, location of the famous archaeological sites, where the average expenditure per room per night has decreased to 71 Euros, Brescia (79 Euros average per night) and Padua, where overnight stays have an average cost of 80 Euros. In the hit list of the least expensive, the most prominent are the Sicilian Catania (81 Euros), Palermo (83 Euros) and the Sardinian Cagliari (87 Euros average per night).
