2016 confirms to be a positive year for Italian incoming. The latest proof is the data from the annual report on international tourism in Italy recently published by Banca d’Italia. The analysis, in fact, during the January-December 2016 period shows an improvement of 14,379 million Euros, compared to 13,544 million during the same months the previous year.
The expenditures of foreign travellers in Italy (36,715 million) increased by 3.3%, that of Italian travellers abroad (22,336 million) by 1.5. Particularly, the number of foreign visitors at the borders increases: 82,873 milioni nel 2016, on the increase compared to the 81,635 million of 2015. Of these, 55 million 932 thousand tourists or business travellers come from countries from the European Union: the French lead the list (over 11.5 million) and Germans (almost 12 million).
The German neighbours, however, confirm to be big spenders with 5,701 billion, followed by the French (3,639 billion) and the British (3,031 billion). The Swiss have been 13m807 million. The 3,796 million Americans (+2.1% more than 2015) that arrived in Italy in 2016 have spent over 4.5 billion. Thirteen Italian regions registered in 2016 a total increase of overnight stays: Piedmont (+40%), Lombardy (+1%), Liguria (+3.8%), Veneto (+2.5%), Friuli Venezia Giulia (+22.6%), Emilia Romagna (+7.2%), Tuscany (+8.9%), Marche (+38.3%), Abruzzo (50.6%), Campania (0.5%), Puglia (+39%), Basilicata (+46.7%), Sardinia (+46%).
