From 11 to 14 October, the Lago Maggiore Meeting Industry, the association founded to promote congresses, meetings and events in the Lake Maggiore area which includes the provinces of Novara, Varese, Verbania Cusio Ossola, and the Swiss canton of Locarno, has organized an educational reserved for some twenty corporate buyers and European industry members.
The aim of the initiative is not only to raise awareness about the potential of this area and its congress facilities, but also to promote Lake Maggiore as a sustainable congress destination.
In fact, the Lago Maggiore Meeting Industry has developed the Lago Maggiore Green Meeting project which envisages the adoption of a series of concrete, quantifiable measures for the organization of events and meetings in order to ensure that the latter make the least possible impact not only on the area but also on the environment.
Guests attending the educational, scheduled to be held over the next few days, will have a chance to experience these “green initiatives” first-hand” thanks to 0 km breakfasts, bike tours and the tasting of typical, local produce.
Not only. Thanks to the collaboration of the participants, who had been briefed on the subject, the entire trip was organized with a view to respect for the environment and the diktats of sustainability. For example, buyers from the same country will travel on the same flight in order to take just one bus to their hotel, waste production will be reduced to a minimum and all materials in paper format will be printed on FSC® certified paper, i.e. originating from responsibly-run forests.
As regards hospitality, four hotels on Lake Maggiore boast EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) environmental certification, recognized on a European level, and two others will shortly be added to the list. At present, certified hotels include: il Chiostro di Verbania, Hotel La Palma di Stresa, Hotel Splendid and Hotel Simplon di Baveno.
