Italian hotels are green: in fact, Italy ranks second in Europe, after France, in the adoption of eco-friendly practices in the hospitality sector. These are the results that emerged from the most recent TripAdvisor Industry Index™, the large scale survey conducted in the Hotellerie business by the well-known travel site that assists customers in gathering information, which involved more than 25,000 hoteliers around the globe, 3,000 of whom are Italian.
The survey revealed that 4 Italian hoteliers out of 5 are aware of environmental issues and the safeguarding of our planet and adopt eco-friendly practices in their hotels including energy-efficient light bulbs, the recycling of organic waste, the use of adjustable thermostats and separate refuse collection in their rooms.
The reasons that prompt hoteliers to adopt these practices are not only for cost-reduction purposes or compliance with the regulations in force, but also the need to satisfy growing guest demand. However, it is a pity that, often, hotel owners forget to inform their guests of the measures and practices implemented. Only a small percentage of the respondents (15%) said that they either advertise these measures or use special messages in the communal areas of their hotels to inform guests about the eco-friendly practices that have been introduced.
